Jouko Paaso is the Rector and CEO of the Oulu University of Applied Sciences, since 1.9.2009. He has graduated from University of Oulu from the department of Electrical Engineering as a Master of Science in 1981. He started his working career as a software engineer at LM Ericsson Ltd in 1981. After that he worked as a researcher in Technical Research Centre in Finland (1983 -1990). During that time, he studied Computer Aided Engineering. After that, he continued working as a senior lecturer in Raahe Institute of Computer Engineering (1990-1993). Paaso then spent a year in Fraunhofer-Institut für Graphische Datenverarbeitung in Darmstadt Germany, working there as a visiting researcher 1993-1994. Next ten years Paaso worked in the University of Oulu, Faculty of Technology, first as a Professor and Head of Raahe Annex, then also Head of Pehr Brahe Software Laboratory. During that time, he did his doctoral thesis for University of Oulu in 1998 (“Computer Based Teaching Technology for Software Engineering Education”). From 2004 he started as a Rector in Vaasa University of Applied Sciences and worked there until 2009. Jouko has and has had numerous memberships in national boards, steering groups and educational development groups. He has written 45 scientific publications in total (14 in Finnish, 30 in English, 1 in Germany).
